CEREC 3D : One Day One Visit
.......A smile is one of your greatest personal assets. We can now help you maintain and improve your smile - more conveniently than ever before! A new instrument called CEREC 3D allows us to offer natural-looking, high- quality ceramic "fillings" or restorations, completed and placed in a single office visit. We provide the following information to help you better understand the instrument and its use. What is CEREC 3D?
.......CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that we can quickly and economically restore damaged teeth using a durable ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth in your mouth. How does CEREC 3D work?
.......First, we prepare the damaged tooth by painting a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth's surface. Using a special camera, we then take a picture of the tooth. We work from this photo, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression of the tooth. .......Computer Aided Design technology helps us design the restoration from the optical impression. You can actually watch us design your new restoration on a full-color computer monitor right before your eyes! .......Then Computer Aided Manufacturing creates an extremely precise restoration, also while you watch. A high-speed diamond bur and a disk work simultaneously to mill the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material. Finally, we bond the newly milled restoration to the tooth using state-of-the-art adhesive dentistry.
What advantages does CEREC 3D offer me?
.......First and foremost, the restoration can be performed in a single session, usually in about one hour. With CEREC 3D, there's no need for us to make an impression and send it to a lab. We won't inconvenience you by asking you to return for a second visit. .......Second, the restoration is natural looking, as it is made from tooth-colored ceramic material. It's metal-free-no silver fillings to discolor your smile! The ceramic material is compatible with tissue in your mouth, high-grade, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. It allows us to be extremely precise and save more of the healthy part of your tooth. What can it be used for?
.......Partial and full crowns .......Veneers .......All other single-tooth restorations How much time will I need to set aside for this procedure?
.......The total time we take to make a restoration depends on the health of your teeth. One restoration usually takes about an hour. We can achieve time efficiencies for repair of several teeth. We will decide together how many teeth to restore in a single session. Will it work for me?
.......Unfortunately, not every tooth is a candidate for CEREC 3D technology. Teeth that have been damaged by grinding and clenching are not candidates for this procedure, as the ceramic restoration would be destroyed in the same way. Will the repairs last?
.......The bonded ceramic restoration is the strongest, one-visit esthetic procedure available. We can treat many damaged areas with smaller inlays and onlays; with old technology, these areas may have required crowns.
